4th Annual Community Shower

4th  Annual Community Shower

MINOT, ND –  Souris Valley United Way is hosting their 4th annual Community Shower will begin on June 01  and end on June 23 with a collection event at the Dakota Square Mall.

The goal is to collect 12,000 diapers. “   , explained Danielle Rued, Campaign Coordinator.

A newborn needs 10-12 diapers a day – something you will experience (or re-experience!) with the arrival of your new baby. Set a goal to diaper a newborn in need for a month (300 diapers), three months (900 diapers), or a year (3,650

Why Is There a Need for Diapers?
Infants need up to a dozen diapers per day, toddlers need up to 8 diapers per day
An adequate supply of diapers could cost $100 per month, per child
Diapers are not covered by WIC or other forms of public assistance
Why Do Diapers Matter?
Children in low-income households may stay in soiled diapers too long
Inadequate diaper changing increases the risk of health problems
A baby crying from being in a soiled diaper may be at a greater risk of physical abuse
Daycare centers may require parents to provide their own disposable diapers, creating a barrier to finding adequate childcare

“This year several businesses participated as drop-off locations.” says Danielle Rued, Campaign Coordinator. “They did a great job of getting the word out and making this a success.”

Event sponsor Depend, has provided a grant to purchase additional diapers and adult personal care items.

All donated items will be donated to the four local food panties and the four shelter programs in the community.

Recipients:

Our Lady of Grace Domestic Violence
The Lord’s Cupboard Men’s Winter Refuge

Souris Valley United Way initiated the drive as part of their commitment to making a difference in the community.
