What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time is spare with Ph.D. work, but when I do, I hang out with my 4-year-old niece, Everette - we play games, read books, color A LOT and watch movies - she is my favorite. I also enjoy traveling whenever possible, especially the Caribbean!
What made you want to be on the SVUW Board?
I enjoy being a part of the SVUW board in the fact that it is community driven and supports SO many amazing organizations in the community and surrounding areas. I am honored to be a part of giving back and supporting those that need it however I can.
Tawnya Bernsdorf is currently a professor at Minot State University in the Business Administration Department. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the MSU Collegiate DECA chapter which has allowed her to help engage MSU students in the community through organizations like Souris Valley United Way’s Backpack Buddies and MSU Men’s Hockey. This involvement has led her to be recognized as a State and National Advisor of the year for Collegiate DECA. In addition to DECA, Tawnya serves as a faculty advisor to the Rodger Looyenga Leadership Development Program. Her role as an advisor helped a group of MSU students kickstart the Essentials for Learning project which is set to begin distributing personal hygiene products to McKinley Elementary students this fall. She recently received the 2018 Young Alumni Achievement Award through Minot State University. Off-campus, Tawnya stays active in the Minot community through her seat on the Souris Valley United Way Board where she serves as a co-chair of the event committee. She also sits on the MSU Men’s Hockey Board and the Minot High School Marketing Advisory Board.
